Sam Jinks' Woman and Child has become an iconic SAM artwork.

Shepparton Art Museum is a pivotal facility in the city's arts community. It regularly features bold and innovative exhibitions of contemporary art and runs a program of community workshops for all ages. It presents prestigious awards such as the biennial Sidney Myer Fund Australian Ceramic Award and the national Indigenous Ceramic Art Award, and holds a nationally significant collection of historic and contemporary Australian ceramics. Australian sculptor Sam Jinks' hyper-realist work Woman and Child (above) became an icon of the museum's collection when it was purchased in 2010. SAM is due for exciting changes when it moves to its new site on the southern shore of Victoria Park Lake in 2020 where among other significant items it will house a large permanent collection of Indigenous artworks from the private collection of Australian arts philanthropist Carrillo Gantner.
